Jim Healy
Beachfront
Tree House
Snapshot:
After a bluebird day on the mountain and a couple of drinks in the rearview mirror, Jim sketched a vision on a cocktail napkin that would’ve made the Swiss Family Robinson nostalgic for simpler times.
General Contractor:
Despite its unconventional foundation, every element of the Treehouse passed inspection and earned a Certificate of Occupancy.
Design stayed true to Jim’s original napkin sketch, evolving through daily morning meetings and “drawings of the day.”
The Treehouse is now available on Airbnb and other platforms.

Owner Representation:
Collaborated with the City to draft new building code regulations, enabling the permit application process.
Engineered a “slip-hanger” system to suspend the structure and accommodate wind sway and other forces.
Submitted designs and brackets to a structural engineer for proof of concept and final inspection under the new code.
Managed all permitting and notifications, coordinating with municipal authorities, utilities, and the road department.
Negotiated all subcontracting agreements—well, sort of. No one in a rational state of mind would bid on this project. It was built entirely on time and materials.

Takeaway:
Walt and the Swiss Family had nothing on Jim Healy. He held three patents, by the way.
Always think both inside and outside the box—there’s no one without the other.
Anything can become rusted one day but have developed a patina the next.
Perspective is everything.
